About the NWUFPA

The North West Umbrella Fire Protection Association is the provincial umbrella body coordinating Fire Protection Associations across the North West Province of South Africa. It serves as the central coordinating structure that supports and strengthens individual FPAs within the province.

Excellence in education and representation, and the protection of life, assets, and the environment from fire.

Mission

To promote efficient fire management in support of FPA activities across the North West Province.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Policy: Development and implementation of provincial fire management strategy and policy
  • Government Liaison: Liaison with the Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC) and National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC)
  • FDI Communication: Distribution and communication of Fire Danger Index information to member FPAs and communities
  • Weather Data: Coordination and dissemination of weather data relevant to fire risk assessment
  • Aerial Support: Coordination of aerial firefighting support when required
  • Inter-FPA Coordination: Facilitating mutual aid and resource sharing between FPAs across the province

Jurisdiction

The NWUFPA has jurisdiction over approximately 10,489,000 hectares across the North West Province.
